DraftSight … How to install it?

Many Dassault Systèmes users who work with SOLIDWORKS today need to work with 2D files. To do this, the company has created a specific software called DraftSight.

In this post, we will explain how to install it for the first time. First, we will review some general information about this product and then we will focus on the step-by-step instructions for getting it up and running.

What products does DraftSight offer?

Like SOLIDWORKS and other products, DraftSight comes in two licensing modalities: single license and network license. For each license type, the following products are available:

Individual license:
a) Professional
b) Premium
c) Mechanical

Network License:
A) Enterprise
B) Enterprise Plus

What to consider before installing it?

Step by step to get the software

First of all, please note that a licensed DraftSight installation on a network has 2 different parts to install:

SERVER > Installing SOLIDWORKS License Manager
CUSTOMER > Installing Draftsight design software .

Server

The SOLIDWORKS License Manager is installed on the server computer. The Draftsight license is activated there, as it is common for licenses of both products, and the Network license management service is enabled.

Therefore, the steps to follow are as follows:

1.- Download the SOLIDWORKS Setup from the web. Then access the login link and log in with an active 3DX account.

2.- Run the Setup on the server computer directly and select the options Install server products > Install Solidnetwork License Manager. (As shown in the following image)

3. Run the installed program and proceed to Modify the installation. (Follow the steps in the image)

4. The license is activated and the enabled products are checked in the license usage tab.

Customer

In the case of a client, the software is installed as such and the steps would be as follows:

Download the DS Setup from the web: https://www.draftsight.com/support/draftsight-download > Get the Windows or Mac version.
Run as Administrator on each user’s computer.
In the License Type section for the Draftsight product, it is essential to select the Solidnetwork License (SNL) option, and then establish the connection data to the server, in the form: port@servername
